Years ago I was part of the search & rescue team that found a lost girl in Arizona's Santa Catalina Mountains on Christmas night during a terrible snow and ice storm. She's lucky she made it out alive, and the story is truly a Christmas miracle. I've turned it into a children's story for young readers, complete with photos of some of a child's favorite things in the outdoors, stylized to look more like the art that spark's their imagination. "The Year Santa Came Back" is a far cry from most of my work, but the true story is inspirational and speaks volumes about the volunteer spirit.
